Is Your Digital Marketing Consultant Hired to Please Assumptions or Helping your Business Succeed Online?

When a few months ago a local company called asking for a digital media consultant to help them with their new landing page for their business. I was happy and eager to help!

My response was classy! Let’s start the project!

Immediately I sent our questionnaire via email and chased responses over the phone..

I, as a digital media consultant, normally send a questionnaire to ensure the new client has the best guidance whilst feeling confident filling in the requested form.

Why, the first question to start with?

The provided questionnaire is intended to give our client a good idea of what they really want.

I always start by asking:

Do you really need what you asked for?

I, personally, have learned to ask ‘why’ first.

There is always a reason for a client to contact me and I want to know these reasons. Knowing our clients is a basic requirement for us to achieve the best outcome for us and for them.

Why:

  • would you like to launch new landing page for your business?
  • is the digital media side of your business becoming so important right now?
  • have you chosen or considering me as the digital media consultant for your business?

The digital strategy comes first

The concept of strategy is not a luxury, it was invented by warlords to win wars.

If two solid armies copy each other’s actions, then it will only ever conclude in a draw.  Both in a war and  in the current market, taking your business online might be either a victory or death!

In war, strategy helps troops to win. The idea in digital media is exactly the same: ‘what I am going to do to make the product or service get more conversions (sales, enquiries or perhaps bookings)’.

New websites are a tool like shiny and sharp swords in the hands of soldiers.

Good weapons are helpful, but for the best outcome you have to know exactly what you want to achieve and how to use them.

It all starts with the goal

Nowadays, when a client calls and says that a webpage is being made, I press the brake.

At the beginning of the project, a meeting is held to discuss the current situation and aspirations of the company for what the company really wants to achieve: do they want to grow or maybe change?

In addition to basic issues, I carefully drill down to the company’s customers and brand.

I need to understand what your independent or chained business wants to communicate before I can create a strategy. Sometimes updating the website is not essential to the company’s goals.

What am I pursuing?

Whenever I design something, I will be following one of the strategies I had previously set out to tell what I am aiming for.

When I present new plans, I go through the most important aspects of the strategy together.

In this way, all the planned work will be received by the target group, that is, your own customers, in mind.

As a Digital Media Consultant, I am here to help, not to please!

Once upon a time a frog met a scorpion along the river.

Scorpion asked the frog to take it to the other side of the river and promises not to sting him.

The frog hesitated, but agrees that if the scorpion stings him during the trip, the scorpion will also die sank.

The frog accepted to take the scorpion on his back.  In the middle of the river, the scorpion stung the frog.

With his last power, the frog asked, “Why… Now you will die too!” The scorpion replied, “I know, but I couldn’t do anything for it. It’s my nature. “

The moral is that customers are stubborn by nature.

Leaders of the most successful companies have the habit of taking things into their own control.

It might be good for their business operation. In digital media, however, this client’s often positive tendency is a threat to the success of the project.

The best part of a decent digital strategy is that it effectively separates the project parties’ egos from the project.

I am not always meant to create things that suit your own preferences or assumptions.

I believe that a good digital marketing consultant should remind you that your customers are your central focus. At the end of the day, our job is trying to influence them, not to please you.

If you want to take your project completely to your own control and set it up for yourself based on your business operational criteria or market assumptions, you can find a lot of different options that rarely will achieve your goals.

If you, on the contrary, are looking for a digital media consultant and a long-term ally to support you, fell free to contact me.
